I have been doing the Lo Carb diet since January 3. I found that on the diet I no longer suffer from Acid Reflux. I went off the diet while I was on vacation a couple weeks ago. My acid reflux came right back.

I had the same thing happen to me. I thought that it was a coincidence until other locarbers started mentioning it. I am off of medication and feeling just fine thanks to my locarb lifestyle.

I've been on Atkins for 4 weeks and have been on Zantac for GERD for over a year. I never even considered taking a short reprieve from it since changing my diet. Maybe I will skip a zantac or two and see if I experience reflux.

Dr. Innards told me, when first diagnosing my acid reflux 6 or 7 years ago, that our bodies developed big acid to digest big meat. I, too, don't seem to suffer from acid reflux on the Atkins diet.

I was a low carber for 2 1/2 years and never suffered from acid reflux or GERD, but took a little vacation (9 months) and it came on with a vengence! I was prescribed Protonix - very expensive medication. Why should I take it? I just went back to 30 carbs a day last month and threw the rest of the pills away - I don't need them anymore. If there wasn't any other reason for going back to a low carb life style and staying there, I don't know what else is!

You see a decrease in acid reflux because eating low carb you are eating a mostly alkaline diet. Go to google and search "alkaline diet" if you want to read more about this.
